Valdosta is 240 miles from Atlanta, 120 miles from Jacksonville, and 78.2 miles from Tallahassee. Valdosta is also intersected by several state highways. |

| The Valdosta Main Street Program has been in operation since 1984, and has been designated as a National Main Street Community for the past seven years. The downtown area is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Main Street is located just minutes from Exit 16 off of I-75. There are over 150 businesses located downtown, as well as government agencies and churches. There are also 28 residential units above the stores. The commercial core has a 96% occupancy rate and is made up of restaurants, specialty shops, apparel stores, and professional financial services. The downtown district is serviced mainly by Patterson Street, Ashley Street, West Hill Avenue and Central Avenue. Valdosta State University, the center of higher education in South Georgia boasts an enrollment of over 11,000 students. Other secondary education opportunities include Georgia Military College serving 800 students, and Valdosta Technical College with 2,500 students. |

| Valdosta's enriching arts community hosts talented individuals from within the community to world renowned artists. The Anette Howell Turner Center for the Arts is home to the Lowndes-Valdosta Arts Commission, which hosts visual artists as well as musicians and dance companies. The Valdosta Theatre Guild at the 'Dosta Playhouse performs numerous plays and musicals per year featuring local talent. Over 200 music performances are offered annually by the Music Department at Valdosta State University and the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra and Peach State Summer Theater Program. |

| Valdosta has two movie theatres: a 16 Screen, stadium seating theatre and a discount theatre. There are also several evening entertainment establishments in the area. Wild Adventures is home to the area concert venue. There are several opportunities for sporting events in Valdosta. The VSU Blazers, Lowndes High School Vikings, Valdosta High School Wildcats, and the Valwood Valiants are all championship football teams and offer other sporting events year-round. |
